Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor WOT (without tenure due to reasons of funding) to join our Neuropathology Division as a full-time academic neuropathologist focused on molecular neuro-oncology on the clinician-scientist or clinician-educator pathway. Each year the Division of Neuropathology evaluates approximately 1,700 surgical specimens and 300 autopsies. Faculty in our division have well-funded research laboratories and collaborate extensively with members of allied Departments to include teaching, research and clinical service.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited, to a track record of independent funding and/or successful application for career-development award and/or formal molecular diagnostics training/neurooncological molecular diagnostics experience. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in diagnostic neuropathology and scholarship focused neuro-oncologic neuropathology and to participate in diagnostic neurosurgical neuropathology services and neuro-oncology interdisciplinary conferences (tumor board). The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in fellow, resident and/or medical student teaching.

For assistant professors: Academic Neuropathologists are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

For associate and full professors: Academic Neuropathologists hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. This position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024 or sooner, but this is flexible and negotiable.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $18,170 to $26,577 per month ($218,039 to $318,927 annually), Associate Professor range: $21,903 to $30,049 per month ($262,831 to $360,592 annually), Professor range: $26,023 to $39,377 per month ($312,274 to $472,526 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD (or foreign equivalent), must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology, and qualify for a license to practice medicine in the State of Washington. Demonstrated productivity in neuro-oncologic pathology and research with a focus on molecular neuro-oncology/diagnostics is required.

In order to be eligible for university sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
