Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, is seeking an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, without tenure (WOT) for reasons of funding, to join on the clinician-scientist or clinician-educator pathway and to serve as the Medical Director of UWMC Laboratories. Rank is commensurate with experience.

This position will serve as the CLIA Medical Director of UWMC Laboratories and provide clinical oversight of Clinical Pathology (CP) services at UWMC-Montlake and UWMC-Northwest, as well as Anatomic Pathology (AP) services at UWMC-Northwest. The primary responsibility for this position is to ensure the clinical excellence of laboratory medicine and pathology services in a leadership capacity, through collaboration with clinical services, coordination of hospital and Department faculty and staff resources, oversight and delegation of medical directorship responsibilities, participation in graduate medical education to meet clinical service needs while providing outstanding training, and support of the Department's clinical and translational research efforts. In addition to CLIA direction of AP and CP clinical services, this position will represent the needs of the subspecialty services and faculty to the leadership of University of Washington Medical Center campuses as well as the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, in collaboration with the Senior Director of Clinical Operations. Clinical duties outside of laboratory direction and oversight are flexible and will be aligned with the candidate's experience within our organization's subspecialty practice model. In this role, the successful candidate will assure that patients are first, maintain a culture of compliance, embody professionalism, oversee the scheduling of service coverage and identify gaps that will require faculty recruitment, promote professional development of trainees and junior faculty, and foster a collaborative community in which we leverage our talents, abilities, and resources to maximal impact in clinical service, teaching, and research.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position is full-time and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024, but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $18,279 to $22,871 per month ($219,352 to $274,461 annually); Associate Professor range: $22,343 to $27,542 per month ($268,123 to $330,507 annually); Full Professor range: $25,274 to $33,349 per month ($303,291 to $400,190 annually); commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Qualifications

1. This position requires either:
   1. An MD or DO (or foreign equivalent) and board-certified or board-eligibility in anatomic and clinical pathology or
   2. An earned PhD in a related field (or foreign equivalent) and board-certification by a relevant accrediting board that would permit medical direction of a high complexity laboratory.
2. If the candidate is a physician, they must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State.
3. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa that includes clinical patient care, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
