Shuttle Operator (10-Month Term), Transportation and Parking Services, Both Campus Locations



Job Description:

To provide professional, courteous and safe transportation services between campuses and special trip requests to the University community. Maintain vehicles and perform various maintenance tasks as required for the department.

TERMS:Ten-month employment during the academic year- August - May. Possibility of additnal work shifts as needed.

Position Hourly Range: $18.50 - $20.42

Hiring salary can be above the posted pay range if candidate's qualifications are determined to be above the minimum requirements of the position description

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Shuttle students and the University community between campuses and other locations according to an established shuttle schedule.
2. Maintains the general and daily up-keep of assigned vehicle (e.g., check water, oil, braking system, lights, turn signals and tires on a daily basis, clean vehicle on a weekly basis; and report any damages to the vehicle upon inspection).
3. Delivers shuttles to mechanic for vehicle maintenance.
4. Completes and maintains daily vehicle inspection forms and gas receipt; submit to office in a timely manner.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Shuttle students, staff and faculty to off campus extracurricular activities.
2. Work as a floater when dedicated drivers are on leave.
3. Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

Knowledge:

• Understanding of the transportation needs of a diverse University community.

Ability and Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty and supervisors.
• Must be flexible as well as detail and team oriented.
• Must exercise sound judgment, and make decisive and accurate decisions appropriate to the situation at hand.
• Willingness and ability to work in an environment involving exposure to some cleaning agents/chemicals. Ability to drive shuttles with seating capacity up to 33 passengers.
• Strong organization and prioritization, oral/written communication, interpersonal skills.
• Bi-lingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Minimum of two years' experience working in a transportation department and five years' driving experience with clean record.
• Sufficient previous experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Must possess a valid Class 'B' endorsement 'P' California driver's license and is contingent on completion of a satisfactory driving records check and ongoing participation in the DMV Pull Program (driving record audits) and random drug/alcohol testing.

Other Requirements:

• Background check and pre-employment drug screen test is required by policy.

Work Location: Both Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)
