Faculty Position - Department Chair, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics
Position Description:

The Department of Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics invites applications for a full-time faculty position to begin Fall 2023. The ideal candidate will have experience leading an academic department and in teaching in the physical sciences-preferably in Engineering Physics, Computer Science, or Mathematics. Vanguard University seeks professionals of Christian faith who are committed to integration of faith and learning in their respective fields. The applicants must have demonstrated teaching ability with undergraduate students, experience in curriculum and program development, program assessment, and a commitment to working with and mentoring a diverse student and employee population. Vanguard offers both tenure track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications at the time of hire.

Courses to be taught may include one or more of the following:

• Engineering Physics
• Computer Science
• Higher Mathematics

Essential Functions:

• Chair a department that includes Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, and Mathematics.
• Collaborate with department faculty in curriculum implementation, student support, program development and improvement.
• Develop and assist in the implementation of department-level assessment and measurement of student learning.
• Identify risks to the organization within the department and discuss risk reduction options with immediate supervisor.
• Teach courses in one or more of the fields listed above.
• Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and thinking.
• Facilitate the learning of first-generation college students and incorporate culturally responsive teaching.
• Maintain a program of scholarly activity, preferably incorporating undergraduate students.
• Mentor faculty and students in development of their scholarship and career goals.
• Participate in shared governance, usually in department and university committees and other service assignments.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in a physical science or applied mathematics field.
• Demonstrated teaching ability including active learning teaching strategies and use of learning management systems
• A vibrant Christian faith, and commitment to an academically rigorous integration of faith and learning
• Legally eligible to work in the Unites States on hire date AND legally authorized to work in the United States for Vanguard University without sponsorship.

Salary:

Assistant Professor: $58,242 to $78,336

Associate Professor: $67,932 to $91,494

Professor: $78,846 to $109,548

Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard's faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank.
