Responsible for the day-to-day operational activities of the Simulation Center's Standardized Patient Program at KP School of Medicine. The Standardized Patient Educator directs the training and supervision of Standardized Patients. Additional duties includes assisting in the development of simulation-based curricula in the Standardized Patient program and occasionally gives presentations on the Center's programs and offerings.
Coaches and develops standardized patients (actors) to a consistent, standardized level of performance and fidelity to the written cases.
Recruits and evaluates standardized patients to ensure effective training for student and faculty educational needs.
Ensures that the pool of standardized patients is maintained and trained at numbers that provide staffing levels required for the volume of teaching and assessment activities.
Ensures the accurate and timely maintenance of scheduled events and rehearsals for training of actors to effectively portray patients.
Collaborates with faculty and other personnel to develop and implement standardized-patient interaction experiences to meet curricular goals.
Facilitates timely communication with faculty, students, and standardized patients.
Serves as a liaison to visitors interested in standardized patient training.
Manages required documentation and billing related to the work of standardized patients; assists with the management and control of the budget for standardized patient events.
Maintains events, standardized patients, and faculty in the simulation center software.
Oversees the implementation of moulage and other material elements of the standardized patient encounters.
Evaluates standardized patient's performance and overall events and provides recommendations for quality improvement.
Minimum one (1) year of standardized patient experience if candidate has minimum four (4) years in an acting education program or two (2) years of professional acting experience OR minimum three (3) years of standarized patient experience if candidate does not have any formal acting education or experience.
License, Certification, Registration
Prior experience managing and educating Standardized Patients.
Bachelor's or Master's degrees in theater, fine arts, film, education, psychology or related discipline preferred.
Able to work occasional evening/weekends.
Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medications, procedures and/or medical conditions.
Knowledge of simulation/acting skills.
Demonstrated skill in coaching, training and/or teaching adults.
Ability to interpret, comprehend and transmit complicated and detailed instructions.
Service-oriented in support of faculty, staff, and students.
Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Organized self-starter, with strong time management skills; detail-oriented.
Proficiency in the use of technology including Microsoft Office products, learning/content management systems, and web-conferencing tools; aptitude for learning new software.
