Contribute to the overall management of the Financial Aid Office as a member of the management team. Ensure the effectiveness of the Direct, institutional and private loan programs and Federal TEACH Grant. Lead the department to more efficient financial options for students and parents. Primary contact to Department of Education, NSLDS, COD, lenders, servicers, guarantors and external partners/vendors. Duties include ensuring quality customer service and delivery of student aid to prospective and current students and assuring compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations.
Typically a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum 3 years experience working in a financial aid office with knowledge of financial aid process, programs, verification, need analysis, student budget, counseling, processing loan applications, loan certifications, disbursements and return of funds.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: Automated accounting systems, general accounting principles, spreadsheet and word processing applications.
Stay current on all federal, state and institutional regulations and policies.
Demonstrated knowledge of the federal financial aid programs, specifically Direct, Institutional and private educational loan programs and Federal TEACH Grant. Accurately complete loan applications, conduct entrance and exit loan counseling sessions, and troubleshoot loan problems.
Ability to successfully manage a team with the ability to assess and provide guidance on a regular basis. Work accurately with high volume of loan applications; accurately balance the funds that are electronically transferred to the credits on student records; understand electronic transfer data, routinely upload and download data.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral). Independent judgment and requiring coordination of various facts to communicate well with student, parents and other professionals.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
