The University of Southern California (USC) Finance Division - Office of the Comptroller is seeking a strategic-minded and experienced Auditor II to join its team.
The USC Finance Division - Office of the Comptroller handles various accounting & financial processes for the University, including the establishment, implementation, and administration of: university accounting principles, practices, and procedures, systems for the maintenance of its fiscal records, and preparation of financial reports. Reporting to the Assistant Comptroller, this position will help identity and mitigate risk through control systems that are embedded in key business processes. They will improve how business transactions are captured, processed, reported and strengthen operational effectiveness and drive efficiency. This position will help develop documentation and policies and procedures around financial statement processes.Â In addition, this position will look at controls around information technology to ensure that the control environment is secure.
Evaluating technology and business-related controls for both IT and integrated audits. Performs control advisory work and identifies areas of opportunity for process and control improvements.
Conducts to a conclusion various audit assignments and special audit projects.
Conducts preliminary surveys, prepares audit programs and determines audit procedures to be used. Prepares and organizes supporting documentation, e.g. work papers and schedules for project under review.
Recommends methods for obtaining, analyzing and evaluating evidentiary data. Determines ability to objectively measure adequacy and effectiveness of systems or controls audited. Â Â
Establishes audit objectives. Budgeted hours, and targeted completion dates. Monitors projects in progress for adherence to project objectives, schedules, deadlines, etc. Reviews audit work papers and reports to ensure standards are met. Keeps supervisor advised on progress of projects.
Identifies deficiencies and recommends corrective action to strengthen controls, improve operations and reduce costs.
Prepares formal written reports expressing opinions on the adequacy. Effectiveness and efficiency of procedures. Discusses recommendations with management and appraises the adequacy of subsequent action taken to improve deficient conditions. Â
Maintains effective working relations with all levels of management.

Bachelorâs Degree in Accounting or a related field
Active/Valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or CPA in process
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Experience at a Big 4 Accounting firm
Experience in higher education

Has obtained or is currently in process of obtaining at least one earned certification: CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, etc. except for Department of Public Safety Clery positions handling auditing functions and procedures.
