High school diploma and successful completion of college courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology and a certified coding class.
Five years of experience in ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT-4/HCPCS coding of inpatient and outpatient records in an acute care facility and experience in using a computerized abstracting, encoding and database systems is required.Â Knowledge of ICD-10 preferred.
Minimum National Certification: AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with CCS preferred; or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) only; or AAPC Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) only; or either the CCS or CIC with any one of the following national HIM certifications:

2.Â Â Â Â Â Â AHIMA Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
At a minimum, if there is the absence of a RHIT credential, the coding supervisor will be required to pass the AHIMA RHIT national examination within two (2) years of employment
Fire and Safety Certification.Â If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.Â Out-of-state/remote telecommuting staff may be exempt from this requirement.Â Â Â Â Â
The OP coding supervisor manage daily operations of the different HIM coding service lines: Same-Day-Surgery (SDS), OP Ancillary, and OP Clinic. Coordinates the training and education of all employees requiring knowledge and instructions on ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS coding principals and guidelines. As the OP Coding Auditor, perform 2nd level review of coded Same-Day-Surgery (SDS), OP Ancillary, and OP Clinic cases to ensure accuracy and completeness of all ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes assigned by HIM Coding Technicians on a daily basis. Address coding related âdenials managementâ issues to minimize denials and reduce the need for follow-up work by addressing denial root cause and trends. Develop & provide reports and analysis of coding productivity, accuracy rates; compliance rates; etc. Recommend education topics based on audit findings and assist in the continued education of coding team. Liaison/coding consultant to other areas of the medical center. Address issues related to coding/billing computer systems such as 3M-CRS, ClinTrac, PBAR, and MedAssets XClaim in a manner to assure timely filings with appropriate codes. Performs other HIM Coding Department duties as assigned by the HIM management team.
