Under the general supervision of the Controller-Budget Director, this position is responsible for timely and accurate completion of the month-end close process, financial reporting, account reconciliation, audit preparation and other related accounting duties. This position is responsible for the leadership and direct supervision of the Financial and Grant Accounting, Financial Reporting, Payroll and A/P functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides excellent customer service to faculty, staff and students.
Provides leadership and professional development to departmental staff.
Assess and provides recommendations for periodic updates to departmental policies and procedures. Provide training and guidance to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
Manages the monthly close activities to ensure a timely and accurate close in accordance with GAAP.
Reviews and posts monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations.
Oversees the Payroll Department ensuring that all University Payrolls are processed timely and accurately in accordance with University policies.
Responsible for the timely and accurate submission of University retirement plan contributions to the third-party administrator.
Supervises the Accounts Payable unit to ensure timely and accurate payments to all University vendors in accordance with University policies.
Supervises the Grant Accounting staff, ensuring all grant related expenditures, revenues and budgets are prepared/tracked in an accurate and timely manner.
Oversees interim and year-end audit preparation and serves as a main point of contact for external auditors.
Assists the Controller-Budget Director with creating, modifying, documenting, coordinating and implementing accounting controls within the organization.
Performs other financial analysis and provide recommendations as required.
Assists with the budget process as requested.
Creates and distributes ad-hoc reports as requested.
Performs additional special projects and/or other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists AVP - Financial Services and Controller - Budget Director with other special projects or duties as assigned.
Familiarity with accounting principles.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications with emphasis on Excel.

Bachelor's degree in related field: accounting, finance, business, etc.
CPA is a plus
3+ years' experience directly related to job description.
Work Location: Both Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)
