Employment Status: Full-time, regular "exempt" position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, occasional evening and weekend hours.

Reporting to the Dean of the Palm Desert Campus (PDC), the Associate Dean will ensure that academic majors, courses, programs and scheduling are run effectively and efficiently so as to meet the needs of the 1,400+ students taking their coursework in Palm Desert. The position manages course and classroom assignments in Palm Desert, working closely and collaboratively with deans/department chairs, tenured faculty, as well as adjuncts, to ensure demand is addressed. Managing local issues surrounding the transition from quarters to semesters in Fall 2020 will be an important expectation for the successful candidate. Typical responsibility includes, but is not limited to:
As a tenured member of the faculty, the Associate Dean interacts with management, staff, department chairs and academic personnel throughout the greater campus community, including every division at CSUSB;
Works closely with department chairs/deans to ensure course assignments and scheduling are in synergy with the demands of the PDC student community.
Incumbent will identify off-campus facilities for activity classes, large lecture rooms and laboratory classes;
Ensures that academic majors, courses, programs and scheduling are run effectively and efficiently so as to meet the needs of the students taking their coursework in Palm Desert;
Runs point on course and classroom assignments in Palm Desert, working closely and collaboratively with deans/department chairs, tenured faculty, as well as adjuncts, to ensure demand is addressed;
Manages local issues surrounding the transition from quarters to semesters in Fall 2020.
Provides counsel, process and assessment to student support staff, including those in the fields of advising, registrar, financial aid, student life, health education, tutoring/counseling and career services;
Serve as PDC's point of contact for all student orientation programs, including SOAR and Coyote First Step. Chair the PDC's Scholarship Committee, in partnership with campus and community colleagues;
Maintains a lead dotted line relationship with PDC-based student support professionals that are integral to student success, including advising, registrar, financial aid/scholarships, the student success studio and career services;
Expected to work thoughtfully to support the PDC's many underserved student populations, including undocumented students;
The Dean and Associate Dean will work collaboratively with HEERA managers in San Bernardino to set the framework and expectations of the student support staff, as well as informing the evaluation process.
The Associate Dean will support relationship building with local schools/districts/community colleges as well as plan/lead district partnership meetings in support of freshmen/transfer recruitment and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A doctorate or equivalent experience in a discipline taught at CSUSB. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including supervision of student employees and regular staff.
