UC San Diego Health's Internal Medicine specializes in preventing, diagnosing and treating disease in adults. We offer general internists as well as medical subspecialists with training in fields such as cardiology, endocrinology or hepatology who together can provide our adults comprehensive and coordinated care in a welcoming environment.
Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, the Medical Assistant (MA) performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC).
These duties also include but are not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments and associated patient system screens; rooming of patients; Point of Care Testing (POCT); prior authorizations for medications, Epic inbox/MyChart messaging and patient follow up; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment.
Requires knowledge of medical terminology, online scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics. Position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment. Other related duties as assigned.
Primary work location is La Jolla Internal Medicine however position may float to other Primary Care Clinics within San Diego County.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Demonstrated medical terminology.
Previous Medical Assistant experience and one (1) year Ambulatory Care experience.
Family Medicine/Internal Medicine experience.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
