The Chapman University Office of Research seeks a dynamic and innovative collaborator with strong communication and organizational skills to serve as its Operations Administrator. Under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Research, the Operations Administrator supports the VP for Research with Office of Research administrative/financial operations and budget management; with faculty development initiatives, special events, and special projects, and with executive support for the VP for Research.
The Operations Administrator provides administrative oversight for the Office of Research. This includes the administration and management of Office of Research budget and financial expenditures requiring the approval of the Vice President for Research. In addition, the Operations Administrator coordinates communications and ensures all administrative aspects of the Office are handled for proper functioning. This includes partnering with Human Resources on all aspects of personnel management from assisting with updating job descriptions, searching for candidates, hiring, onboarding, and fostering a culture of integrity and collaboration in the Office. The Operations Administrator performs and/or oversees special projects or assignments of a highly sensitive or complex nature, requiring a high level of independence and initiative in execution and implementation. Additionally, the Operations Administrator, as a representative and aide to the Vice President for Research, handles details and oversees work of a highly confidential and critical nature to support the Vice President for Research on matters of significance.
In the area of project management and support, the Operations Administrator plays a key role for all internal and external Office of Research initiatives in partnership with the Vice President for Research, the Director of Sponsored Projects and the Director of Research Integrity. These includes special events hosted by the Office of Research and faculty development initiatives.
As a close partner to the Vice President for Research, the Operations Administrator functions as a liaison and quickly gains an understanding of the cadence and requirements of – and specific to – Vice President for Research. The Operations Administrator uses that insight to guide and support the prioritization of issues according to urgency and to allocate time scheduled for events, travels, and meetings.

A Bachelor's Degree is required, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the Chapman University organization as well as the Office of the President, the Board of Trustees, and external constituencies.
Experience working with business and process analysis. Knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow, and architecture is required.
General understanding of organizational change management approaches in supporting project teams through transformation type projects is highly preferred.
Experience in a higher education research institution is highly preferred.
