Senior Specialist Clinical Laboratory Scientist specializes in mass spectrometry. This position functions as a senior specialist of the Toxicology/Mass Spectrometry laboratory in the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM). The successful candidate will perform the full range of duties required of a clinical laboratory scientist specializing in toxicology/mass spectrometry, with the responsibility of performing, evaluating, interpreting, and validating the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results.
Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens using manual and automated techniques, and require the ability to make independent decisions with minimal technical supervision. This position includes requirements to monitor quality control systems and measures; solve complicated issues related to instrument performance and maintenance, perform analyses for routine patient care, develop new clinical assays and ensure compliance with various regulatory agencies. This position may also has supervisory responsibilities.
The primary functions of the Sr. Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist are to perform independently a wide variety of duties within their area of specialty. These duties include investigation/development of new/modified test procedures and technical review and monitoring of existing procedures. Coordination of quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing activities. Responsibilities may include identification of staff training needs and evaluating the competency of testing personnel.
Act as technical consultant and resource for staff, Medical Enterprise and community. Work assignments are made by the Manager and/or Supervisor and/or Faculty on a daily or project basis.
Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS).
A Bachelor's Degree.
Must have at least five (5) years experience of applicable clinical laboratory experience.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.
Clinical applications of liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry.
Experience with interfacing liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry systems with laboratory information systems.
Experience with automated liquid handling systems.
Must be able to work all shifts, week-ends, holidays, overtime and at various locations as necessary in accordance with operational needs.
