This position provides specialized program support and technical skills to Extension Associates and Agents developing and delivering education through EFNEP, the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. Consistent with the philosophy, policy and overall mission, goals and educational objectives of Cooperative Extension at N.C., EFNEP is a federally funded educational program which strives to improve the health of limited resource youth and families with young children through practical lessons in nutrition. These tasks include focused customer service, marketing, event scheduling, expense reporting, and instructional assistance. Renewal of the position is contingent on the availability of funds.
Due to the target audience demographics, the incumbent needs to be bilingual in Spanish and English. This position will also be located in Forsyth County.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, Cooperative Extension has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian Nation.
EFNEP's mission is to improve the health of limited resource youth and families with young children through practical lessons on: basic nutrition and healthy lifestyles, resource management and food safety. The program focuses on helping families and youth improve behaviors in the following areas: Dietary Intake as recommended by the Dietary Guidelines and MyPlate, Food Resource Management skills and practices, Nutrition Practices and Food Safety practices. Participants increase their ability to select and buy food that meets the nutritional needs of their families and gain new skills in food preparation, food storage, and food safety. They learn to better manage their food budgets – including the use of Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT), Food Instruments and Cash Value Vouchers. Additionally, in collaboration with many organizations through the Eat Smart and Move More initiative, NC EFNEP aims to reduce the rising tide of obesity by teaching youth and families' practical skills resulting in changed behaviors that help them to eat smart, move more and achieve a healthy weight.

High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Requires the ability to speak both English and Spanish
Ability to speak and write Spanish highly preferred
Some college desirable; specifically courses in education or nutrition
Knowledge or experiences related to nutrition and/or family and consumer sciences
Ability to plan and deliver nutrition education lessons, specifically in Spanish
Experiences in working with computers/internet based programs
Experience in working with low income clients
Ability to work independently and with a team
