Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Analytical Services Laboratory Director is a 12-month, non-faculty appointment. The person will be a vital member of Agricultural Research Program in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES). A major duty will be to provide analytical service to faculty, postdocs, and students (graduate and undergraduate). This position may serve on graduate student committees and serve as co-PI on externally funded research projects. The Analytical Services Laboratory (ASL) Director will develop and maintain documented analytical standard operating procedures (SOP), and supervise staff members and students working in the ASL. May develop and teach a graduate course on experimental design and analysis.

Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and also provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.

Ph.D. in Chemistry, analytical chemistry, or closely aligned applied sciences, with related hands-on laboratory experience. Some understanding of plant and soil chemistry is required.
Demonstrated ability to design and perform advanced laboratory testing, analytical method development, and instrumental analysis. Theoretical understanding of chemistry and demonstrated ability to perform related mathematical and statistical analyses and modeling. Knowledge if various statistical experimental design methods and data analysis packages. Demonstrated ability to use, troubleshoot and maintain an array of analytical instruments including HPL, GC, ICP, NMR, CHNOS analyzer, and other analytical lab equipment.
The candidate must have effective communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, research and teaching faculty, students, and partners in the food and agricultural community. Postdoctoral experience, evidence of scholarly activities and a record of obtaining competitive grants are desirable but not required.
