Summary of Duties:
Under the general supervision, the Research Assistants 2-B/H prepare samples and perform laboratory experiments to investigate molecular and genetic pathways to define novel cancer therapeutic targets using a variety of experimental techniques including molecular biology, biochemistry, and microscopy. They work mainly with tissue cultures and, occasionally, with patient tumor specimens; perform routine experimental procedures such as cell culture propagation, plasmid preparations, and molecular cloning. Independently prepare samples and execute planned research activities using multiple techniques, such as PCR, western blot, and fluorescence microscopy (wide field, confocal, and Lattice Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy). They test and evaluate current laboratory procedures, to consolidate protocols and confirm results. They prepare progress reports and assist the principal investigator in the analysis of research results that will be included in grant proposal, articles, posters, and presentations. They oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and perform routine clerical duties to ensure the laboratory is appropriately supplied monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed. They assist with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; set up and operates laboratory equipment; conduct library research on requested topics through researching current literature. Genuine interest and curiosity in cell biology is preferable.

Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; background in biological sciences and experience in a biological/health research capacity; knowledge of computers including word processing and spreadsheet programs; ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of the daily tasks.
Target Salary: $12.50 - $17.79 Hourly
