Job Summary: Help with assembly of a fiber-based astronomical instrument. Use precision tooling to bond fibers to mounts and assemble fibers into positioner assemblies. Some general lab housekeeping is also anticipated.
Job Duties: - Use precision tooling to bond fibers to mounts - Assemble fibers into positioner assemblies - Keep labs clean and organized - Pack completed positioner assemblies into crates - Complete test reports - Understand work instructions, both written and verbal - Perform basic calculations based on lab measurements - Recognize and communicate with senior staff about anomalous results
Basic Qualifications - Manual dexterity - Attention to detail - Professional work habits - Eyesight sufficient for inspection of small assemblies - Pass a pre-employment physical - Ability to write technical reports, based on a template - Excellent verbal and writing skills - Ability to calculate results from equations
Preferred Qualifications - One year college education in a science or engineering field - Experience in hands-on technical work, including home projects and lab courses - Ownership of technical projects, including home projects
