The primary role of the Makerspace Lab Technician is to assist faculty with class activities and the daily operations of the Makerspace shop. The Makerspace Lab Technician works to ensure safe, secure, healthy and well-run facilities for the instructors and students; assists students and instructors. The Makerspace Lab Technician helps students with technical issues on projects, maintains equipment and materials and orders supplies.
Typically a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art (3D Sculpture preferred) or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
Minimum 3 years related experience. Familiarity with a range of power tools, hand tools, and media, and an understanding of equipment and material safety. Familiarity with higher education is a plus.
Demonstrated knowledge in woodworking, 3D printing, 3D scanning (preferred), design software, and use of sewing machine. Strong computer skills.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with administrators, faculty, staff, students and vendors, and demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for working with a diverse population. Ability to establish and maintain collegial working relationships.
Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to problem-solve effectively. Ability to provide individual/small group instruction. Ability to work either independently or as a part of a team.
