The University seeks a dynamic, energetic, eminent scholar-practitioner who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, transformative leadership and an overall commitment to educational excellence and the land-grant mission. The Dean reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the chief administrative officer for the College of Engineering, the Dean is responsible for leadership and oversight of the College?s academic and research enterprise. The Dean will lead the administration, development and direction of academic programs, strategic planning, fundraising, and facility development.
Additional responsibilities will include the following:
Lead faculty and staff to develop and cultivate academic and research programs that yield exceptional outcomes;
Sustain/maintain accreditation in all programs by ABET and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC);
Encourage and facilitate expansion of internationally recognized research;
Foster a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives to attract, recruit, and retain top faculty, staff, and students;
Strengthen relationships with alumni and other strategic external partners to support the College's research, scholarly, educational, service, and fundraising goals. Identify and partner with leading organizations to promote growth for the field and employment opportunities for students.
The ideal candidate should have an earned doctorate in one of the engineering or computer science disciplines and possess a distinguished record of teaching and research activities that will support the award of tenure at the rank of full professor in one of the disciplines within the College. It is preferred that the successful candidate possess seven years of effective administrative experience and demonstrate a strong commitment to the teaching, research and community service mission of the College.
A record of successful leadership with a knowledge of, appreciation for, and commitment to the philosophy and programs of the 1890?s and HBCU institutions;
A focus on building and enhancing interdisciplinary collaborations;
Experience developing and cultivating alumni and community relations in the public and private sector;
A commitment to collaborative and data-driven decision-making;
A record of working effectively with senior leadership, faculty, staff, students and external constituencies;
Ability to set a bold vision for the College;
A demonstrated record of successful accreditation by ABET and a regional accrediting body;
Ability to promote educational growth relating to the quality of instruction, growth in enrollment and the infusion of innovative practices in teaching, research and service;
Capacity to identify, recruit and retain strong leadership, faculty, and staff across the academic, extension, and research units of the College;
A demonstrated commitment to student success and retention;
A record of successful budget management;
Exceptional change management, communication and interpersonal skills;
Commitment to the diversity of students, faculty and staff and to advancing an inclusive climate that stimulates excellence; An entrepreneurial approach to leadership that will strengthen the College and University.
