Employment Status: Full-time, temporary, "non-exempt" position
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday (Rotating Work Schedule)

Under immediate supervision, the incumbent works with and acts as a lead worker for a group of custodians or other personnel engaged in custodial duties and does related work as required. The incumbent serves on an area or crew basis and leads approximately 6-12 custodians and regularly performs custodial work as part of their duties. The incumbent is responsible to guide, check, correct, report on and work with a group of custodians; train and instruct custodians in the proper use of equipment, materials and accepted custodial techniques; assist custodians in the performance of their duties; make inspections; report equipment and repair needs; report need for additional supplies; report absences of personnel and may assume absent custodian's duties; assist in the security of the areas assigned; assist in the evaluation of subordinates' performance; assist in coordination of vacant room cleaning, conference cleaning and guest housing; assist and coordinate the moving of furniture and equipment; coordinate summer work, holiday schedule for service coverage and other special events; other duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess knowledge of methods, materials, chemical disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work as well as safety practices used in custodial work. Applicants must have the ability to maintain effective work relationships with staff and students. Applicants must have the ability to use and care for custodial supplies and equipment and observe and use safe working conditions. Applicants must have the ability to read and write at an appropriate level and follow simple oral and written directions. Prior experience in a Residential Life setting is preferred.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must have the ability to climb, reach overhead, kneel, bend over and crouch as needed. Applicants must possess the ability to push, pull, lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs. Applicants must be able to use hands, arms and legs repetitively as needed. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a back evaluation, pre-employment physical examination a written test, and a fingerprint background check. Hepatitis B Virus vaccination is available on a voluntary basis upon employment.Current employees will be given preferred consideration.
Other Qualifications: Equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
