Full Time 40 hours Grade 092 Psychiatry SMH Strong Ties Schedule 7:30AM-5PM; WKENDS AS NEEDED Responsibilities General Purpose: The Technologist performs clinical tasks and some clerical functions in support of care providers in patient care activities which, in part, include a variety of technical, procedural, and informational system tasks that facilitate the delivery of quality patient care in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The Technologist is expected to engage in customer service activities using a Patient and Family-centered approach consistent with the â˜I CAREâ™ behavior of the University of Rochester Medical Center. The position exercises skill with latitude for independent judgement in decisions regarding patient flow, procedural support, management of equipment, and patient room supply needs in meeting provider needs. The Technologist is open and approachable in a way that is conducive to teamwork within the area of practice and acts as a role model to new staff. Responsibilities: Clinical Practice â“ Patient/Family Care Delivery: Obtain and record vital signs per unit policy/standards of care. Conduct screening for pain, allergies, and other patient specific measures during office visits per unit standards. Document blood pressure finding, pain score, and allergy information in the EMR. Utilize daily schedules in identifying tasks/flow to be carried out with assigned patients/groups. Maximizes room utilization (exam and procedure rooms) through establishing efficient communication systems with other members of the team and through assuring that needed supplies are available. Perform specimen collection duties ( e.g. urine toxicology screens) following the appropriate procedures for specimen collection and labeling. Uses the EMR as part of this process. Notify provider of patient arrival. Observe patients and report any changes in patient condition to appropriate provider during exam or procedure. Perform telephone outreach activities to reschedule patients who may be due for appointments or have missed a previously scheduled appointment. Assist in workflow and processing of patient documents with all providers. Recognize emergency situations and initiates appropriate response following the direction of nurses, physicians, and other authorized personnel during emergencies. Execute other duties within scope of training as assigned by Nursing Practice. Clinical Coordination: Maintain clinical equipment through appropriate disinfection and operational maintenance procedures as per SMH policy. Perform daily, weekly, and monthly check on equipment (as per standard) and document quality control results as required. Conduct inventory of supplies from internal and external vendors and requisitions needed. Assist in scheduling Bio-Medical engineering or outside vendors in the calibration and maintenance of equipment. Assist with maintenance and inventory of sterile and non-sterile supplies and specialty equipment. Prepare instruments for decontamination and sterilization. Performance Improvement: Collect data for quality improvement studies; work with unit leadership in identifying areas of improvement and opportunities to improve patient and provider experiences in the area. Assist in the tracking of supply utilization for cost trending purposes. Participate in research activities as directed. Actively participate in group activity. Qualifications: Associateâ™s degree plus 2-3 years of experience in a patient care setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer experience preferred. The Technologist should possess well-developed communication skills and can demonstrate these skills through written, verbal, and non-verbal interactions with other members of the intraâ”disciplinary team, patients, families, external consumers (healthcare providers, group homes, pharmacies, home healthcare agencies, etc.). The position must demonstrate exceptional caring and concern for the patients, and demonstrate exceptional customer relation skills with providers and other staff. The Technologist can work in an efficient manner by prioritizing assignments, demonstrating skill in proactively resolving problems, and recommending and implementing continuous quality improvements. Should be comfortable with the use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office products, IDX, and eRecord (EMR). Must be attuned to the needs of an adult patient population with sever and persistent mental illness.
