The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University invites applications for one or more full time lecturer positions beginning August 2017. Instructional duties will include teaching 12 hours per semester, the majority at the freshman level. Faculty members are expected to participate in service activities as well.
The requirements for the positions are a Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field and evidence of a strong teaching record. Candidates with doctorate degrees are preferred, especially those with research areas that mesh with our faculty.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences consists of 29 tenured or tenure track faculty as well as more than 20 full and part-time non-tenure track faculty. The department offers degrees in Actuarial Sciences; Mathematics, Secondary Education; and Mathematics. The department also offers an M.A. with concentrations in either Secondary Education or College Teaching. The department currently has about 250 undergraduate majors and 21 graduate students. Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina. Located in Boone, North Carolina, the university has approximately 18,000 students, primarily in bachelors and masters programs in both liberal arts and applied fields. Appalachian has both a traditional residential campus and a variety of distance education programs.
